Radical and scientific ecology - is it worth to distinguish it in that way?

The Heidelberg Appeal, signed in 1992 on the occasion of the international conference called “Earth Summit” is a protest of many well-respected scientists from different countries against the unilateral understanding of ecological problems in the whole world. Among scientist there are more then 4 thousands eminent scientists, among others several dozens of Nobel prizewinners. It is a very balanced and simultaneously smart judgment, but the organizers of the “Earth Summit” did not even consider a possibility to announce it at the Rio conference. There are many speculations, that it happened because of the fact that this international meeting was dominated by radical ecological organizations.

The Appeal is definitely against condemning the development of civilization and technology, which was emphasized by the representatives of radical ecology in Rio. The scientists, who signed the appeal claim that they are for making the inventory, continuous monitoring and conserving the natural resources but all these actions should be drawn on the scientific knowledge not on irrational views. They promote ‘scientific ecology’ as a continuation of constant progress in order to improve the next generations conditions of living. What is more they are also for supporting the poorest Third World countries. Science, industry and technology are inevitable and will let the future to be shaped and find a solution for many important problems as increased population growth, hunger and spreading illnesses.
