This film (directed by Davis Guggenheim), tells about causes and effects of global warming.
„Intelectually exhilarating. An inconvenient truth is a neccesary film”.
/A.O. Scott New York Times/
The film “offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man’s fervent crusade to halt global warming’s deadly progress in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. That man is former Vice President Al Gore, who, in the wake of defeat in the 2000 election, re-set the course of his life to focus on a last-ditch, all-out effort to help save the planet from irrevocable change. In this eye-opening and poignant portrait of Gore and his “traveling global warming show,” Gore also proves himself to be one of the most misunderstood characters in modern American public life. Here he is seen as never before in the media - funny, engaging, open and downright on fire about getting the surprisingly stirring truth about what he calls our “planetary emergency” out to ordinary citizens before it’s too late” (http://www.climatecrisis.net/aboutthefilm, 2007).
An inconvenient truth is formed as a lecture about the ecological catastrophe, which is going on on our Planet. The lecturer is Al Gore. There is a courageous picture of global warming effect on The Earth.
Albert Arnold Gore (Al Gore) is an American politician, activist of a Democracy Party, a member of Congress and vice-President of United States. He is a journalist and the author of many books.
Many articles carry out the information about the effects of global warming. First and simultaneously the most crucial point of it, discussed in a huge way, is the fact that it leads to serious changes in climate in the whole world.
‘The 2005 is sad to break all records, because it is known for many heat waves, and was recognized as the hottest year in a history’ (Eko i My, 2006). ‘From nineteenth century till contemporary times, the average temperature has increased about 0,7°C. Scientists warn, that exceeding the 2°C border will cause that mountain glacier in Greenland will be completely melted’ (Eko I My, 2006). According to this, there comes severe, dangerous, weather phenomena, which should be definitely considered as threatening to our Earth. ‘The pessimistic version of the climate prediction says that the temperature may increase up to the 5,8°C till the end of our century!’ (Eko i My, 2006).

The direct effect of global warming, considered very seriously, is increasing the oceans level (Fig. 2). It is undeniable that it can lead to many cataclysms, which will endanger live being in our planet.
Above there is a very vast opinion regarding to the ‘all the world problems’, but there is also a document, which exactly concerns the global warming effect. The Lipska Declaration is a document, which was signed in 1995 by 25 meteorologists and 80 other scientists, who stay against the global warming hypothesis and the Kyoto protocol. This document (declaration) and its content was criticized seriously by many scientists. The Kyoto protocol is a document which is a supplement to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and also an international agreement in the matter of global warming. It was negotiated at the Kyoto conference in 1997. It delivers (among many others) an information that the country which sign it is obliged to limit the emission of greenhouse effect gases till the exact time. Poland also sign it up. The authors of the Lipska Declaration claim that it is not based on the solid scientific facts and moreover its assumptions are not possible to achieve. The statements are based only on computer and theoretical models, which are not excellent end differ very much from the realistic world. They claim that people should of course be sensitive to climate changes and to our human activities because it always influence on human being. The results of warmer and colder periods are the evidences. However they do not admit that world is threatened with the climate cataclysms and that we need quick provide actions. IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) specialists can not ignore this document, but it brings them a problem. What is more it is not possible to say that it is definitely untruth because it contents essential facts, which could not be considered as incorrect. What they can do is passing it over – and that is their way to let it disappear somehow. The newest document called Oregon Petition, signed by the President of the American Science Academy and former member of IPCC who could not stand the diligence of this commission. It relates to the Kyoto protocol and appeals to make the Kyoto assumptions unacceptable. It emphasizes again that there are no scientific evidences which deliver a certain information about the fact that an increased level of greenhouse effect gases, caused by human being, do not cause dangerous climate warming and weather disturbances. What is more there are some serious evidences, which say that the high concentration of carbon dioxide in atmosphere is in favour with the nature development in the world.
Earth Day is a name used by two different observances held annually in the (northern) spring, both intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. (i.e. Globalwarming Awareness2007)
“May there only be peaceful and cheerful Earth Days to come for our beautiful Spaceship Earth as it continues to spin and circle in frigid space with its warm and fragile cargo of animate life.”
The April 22 Earth Day
Responding to wide spread environmental degradation, United States Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin called for an Environmental Teach-in or Earth Day to be held on April 22, 1970. Over 20 million people participated and it is now observed each year by more than 500 million people and national governments in 175 countries. SenatorGaylord Nelson, an environmental activist in the U.S. Senate, took a leading role in organizing the celebration, to demonstrate popular political support for an environmental agenda. He modeled it on the highly effective Vietnam War protests of the time. Senator Nelson selected Denis Hayes (a Harvard student and Stanfordgraduate) as the National Coordinator of activities. The nationwide event included opposition to the Vietnam War on the agenda. Pete Seeger was a keynote speaker and performer at the event held in Washington DC. Paul Newman and Ali McGraw attended the event held in New York City.
According to Santa Barbara Community Environmental Council:
“The story goes that Earth Day was conceived by Senator Gaylord Nelson after a trip he took to Santa Barbara right after that horrific oil spill off our coast in 1969. He was so outraged by what he saw that he went back to Washington and passed a bill designating April 22 as a national day to celebrate the earth.”[5]
Senator Nelson stated that Earth Day “worked” because of the spontaneous response at the grassroots level. 20 million demonstrators and thousands of schools and local communities participated.[6]
Earth Day proved extremely popular in the United States and around the world. The first Earth Day, in 1970, had participants and celebrants in two thousand colleges and universities, roughly ten thousand primary and secondary schools, and hundreds of communities across the United States. More importantly, it “brought 20 million Americans out into the spring sunshine for peaceful demonstrations in favor of environmental reform.”[7]
Senator Nelson directly credited the first Earth Day with persuading U.S. politicians that environmental legislation had a substantial, lasting constituency. Many important laws were passed by the Congress in the wake of the 1970 Earth Day, including the Clean Air Act, laws to protect drinking water, wild lands and the ocean.
Now observed in 175 countries, and coordinated by the non-profit Earth Day Network, www.earthday.org, Earth Day is the largest secular modern-day holiday in the world.

The Heidelberg Appeal, signed in 1992 on the occasion of the international conference called “Earth Summit” is a protest of many well-respected scientists from different countries against the unilateral understanding of ecological problems in the whole world. Among scientist there are more then 4 thousands eminent scientists, among others several dozens of Nobel prizewinners. It is a very balanced and simultaneously smart judgment, but the organizers of the “Earth Summit” did not even consider a possibility to announce it at the Rio conference. There are many speculations, that it happened because of the fact that this international meeting was dominated by radical ecological organizations.
The Appeal is definitely against condemning the development of civilization and technology, which was emphasized by the representatives of radical ecology in Rio. The scientists, who signed the appeal claim that they are for making the inventory, continuous monitoring and conserving the natural resources but all these actions should be drawn on the scientific knowledge not on irrational views. They promote ‘scientific ecology’ as a continuation of constant progress in order to improve the next generations conditions of living. What is more they are also for supporting the poorest Third World countries. Science, industry and technology are inevitable and will let the future to be shaped and find a solution for many important problems as increased population growth, hunger and spreading illnesses.
The process of heating the Earth and keeping the proper temperature in the way that it preserves life is possible because of the so called greenhouse effect gases, which are: water vapour and carbon dioxide. These gases absorb a substantial amount of solar energy and emit it towards the Earth. About half amount of it is absorbed by the Earth. The rest part is reflected or it is absorbed by the atmosphere. 60% of the energy is used for evaporating oceans water, heating rivers, lakes and soil. The last amount of solar energy is gave off in the form of long-wave radiation.
Key words: greenhouse effect gases, water vapour and carbon dioxide, solar energy

Today we would like to present places where you can find the information connected with global warming, and interesting interviews (in Polish or English version) in this topic and also some articles, which delivers some new research.
First we would like to refer to the latest interview with famous Polish scientist, who is famous among others for very courageous word in his publications. As we mentioned before Professor Przemysław Mastalerz is the author of the book “Ekologiczne kłamstwa ekowojowników” (which could be translated as “Ecological lies of eco-fighters”), where he also talks about the latest controversial topic, which is exactly the global warming effect.
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) claims that global warming will bring a serious effects and will cause that the Earth will suffer in a huge way. On the other hand stays the Professor, who steadily thinks that all these statements about the fact that human influence on climate change is so crucial are not justified. ‘History teaches that the climate on the Earth were overcoming many periodical changes, it was cold and warm after that. Due to the fact that in the nineteenth century it was cold, now it is warmer – it is a kind of relaxation. Climate is getting change in accordance with the rhythm, which is not understandable by us. But this rhythm is a historical fact’. Mastalerz add also that there is not any clear answer on the query why the climate is changing so rapidly. He says that ‘the temperature’s fluctuation is documented by the geological observations’ and that IPCC ignore many important facts or delivers information which are not true! For instance very famous scientist from IPCC wrote that from 1950’s there was a sudden and serious temperature increase, which was not observed from the 1000 n.e. Professor Mastalerz, who was asked about the most realistic Earth threats answered that these are exactly the eco-fighters actions, manifestations and so on, because they spread untrue information about global warming effect.
Today we would like to present the book (from 2000), which content is often considered as very controversial and uncommon, its claims and statements are bold words of critisism. We would like to summarize how the Polish book „Ekologiczne kłamstwa ekowojowników” (‘Ecological lies of ecofighters’) of Przemysław Masztalerz shows the global warming effect.
The book is very interesting from many points of view, but the crucial reasons to read it is from the one hand astonishingly and surprisingly shown many so called ‘ecoproblems’ (among the others DDT, asbestos, ozone layer and finally the global warming effect).
Probably 7 years ago, when the book depicted on the market everybody would have said that these statements (also about global warming) are completely made up. As author writes the popular meaning of this phenomenon is an increase of temperature in the lowest part of the atmosphere, which is caused by the carbon dioxide and other ‘greenhouse effect gases’ (like methane, CFC gases – freons emission), which are by-products of our industrial civilization (Mastalerz 2000). The author emphasizes that in contemporary times we often forget about the crucial and very important real global warming effect, thanks to our globe is able to survive and live. The book delivers an information that people seek only for the speculated results of economic human live strategy. The author says that ‘the climate observations during the last 100 years shows, that the average temperature increased about 0,5-1,0°C, but there is no evidence that the cause of global warming effect is exactly the higher level of carbon dioxide in the air’. Mastalerz also quotes the IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change) statements, publicated in 1992, which says:
“Because of the greenhouse gases emission during the century we are approaching to it will come the increase of average global temperature in the lower layer of atmosphere about 3°C. It will bring the enhanced oceans level to the next century about 60cm. To stop this process it is need to limit the CO2 emission about 60%”.
This is assessed as very categorical opinion like many others in this topic, delivered by politicians and officials, promoted and spread in many schoolish books and scientific materials. Author of the book tells about people who blame human being for the global increase of temperature as they were ecological fanatics, who of course in accordance with the rights of democracy can say what they want, but they definitely are not allowed to spread such a stand in a matter of global warming in schoolish materials which are read by young people. Mastalerz emphasizes too, that climatologists and farmers know exactly, that melting glaciers is not a process that can lead to the complete melt in a short (ex. several dozen years) period of time. “Instead of causing in children the response for the global warming, specialists who write books and materials for pupils should make them aware what were the climate changes at the turn of the geological ages taking into consideration cyclically repeated frozen periods”. To be continued…
